The Ascension of Jesus (Explained for Kids)

In this Juice Box episode, kids learn what the Ascension is, why the cloud matters, and how Jesus going to Heaven doesn’t mean He left us, it means He’s with us in a new, powerful way.

Ascension of Jesus for Kids (What Happened and Why It Matters)

Jesus’ Ascension is when Jesus goes to Heaven fully alive after rising from the dead. It happens 40 days after Easter, after Jesus spends time teaching His friends and preparing them for what comes next.

In the Bible, the number 40 often signals a big transition. One chapter is finishing, and a new one is beginning. So the Ascension is a “new beginning” moment for Jesus’ followers.

Acts says a cloud took Jesus from their sight, and in the Bible, clouds often point to God’s presence. Jesus isn’t “gone”, He’s entering God’s glory and isn’t limited to one place anymore, and He can be close to us everywhere.

For kids, the Ascension means Jesus didn’t abandon you, He went ahead of you, but stays close to you, and invites you to follow Him with trust, courage, and hope.

Key Takeaways

  • Jesus rose on Easter, stayed with His friends for 40 days, and then ascended into Heaven, alive and victorious.
  • The Ascension is not “Jesus disappearing”, it’s Jesus entering God’s glory and opening Heaven for us.
  • The cloud is a biblical sign that something holy is happening, God is present, and Jesus is King.
  • After the Ascension, Jesus isn’t limited to one location, He can be close to us everywhere through prayer and the Church.
  • The cloud craft helps kids remember the big idea: we might not see Jesus with our eyes, but He is still real, still near, and still leading us.
  • The moral is simple: when we can’t see the whole picture, we can still trust Jesus and keep following Him.

Episode Summary

This episode helps kids understand one of the biggest “wait, what?” moments in the Bible: Jesus rises from the dead, and then later He goes to Heaven. What does that even mean?

Families learn that the Ascension happens 40 days after Easter, after Jesus has been teaching, encouraging, and preparing His friends. The number 40 appears in the Bible during big “transition” moments, helping kids see the Ascension as a new beginning, not a goodbye.

Then comes the cloud. The episode explains that the cloud isn’t just a special effect, it’s a biblical symbol that points to God’s presence. Jesus is not “far away”; He is entering God’s glory, and He can be close to us everywhere.

Finally, the cloud craft makes it hands-on. Kids get a simple way to remember the message: even when Jesus isn’t visible like He was on earth, He’s still with us, still leading us, and still calling us to live with hope.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the Ascension of Jesus for kids?

The Ascension is when Jesus goes to Heaven after He rose from the dead. It happens 40 days after Easter. Jesus is alive, and He enters God’s glory as King.

What does the cloud mean in the Ascension story?

In the Bible, clouds often show God’s presence. So the cloud at the Ascension is a sign that something holy is happening. It helps us understand Jesus is entering God’s glory, not just “floating away.”

Did Jesus leave us when He ascended?

No. The Ascension doesn’t mean Jesus abandoned us. It means He is with us in a new way and isn’t limited to one place anymore. Jesus stays close to us through prayer, the sacraments, and the Church.

Why does the Ascension happen 40 days after Easter?

In the Bible, 40 often means a big transition. Something is ending, and something new is beginning. Jesus used those 40 days to teach and prepare His friends before starting a new chapter for the Church.

How can we help kids remember the Ascension?

Use something they can see and do. A simple cloud craft (cotton balls or paper clouds) helps kids remember the “cloud moment” and the big idea: Jesus went to Heaven, but He didn’t leave us. He’s still close. You can also add a one-sentence repeatable line like, “Jesus went ahead of us to Heaven, and He stays with us every day.”

Holy Week: A Comprehensive Compilation for Kids

In this Juice Box compilation episode, kids and parents walk through the whole story of Holy Week, from palms to the empty tomb, with simple explanations that help the season feel clear, meaningful, and doable for families.

What Is Holy Week in the Catholic Church for Kids?

Holy Week is the most important week of the year for Christians. It’s when we remember what happened to Jesus at the end of His life on earth, His love, His suffering, His death, and His Resurrection.

It starts with Palm Sunday, when Jesus enters Jerusalem, and people wave palms, cheer for Him, and shout “Hosanna!”.  On Holy Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, we stay close to Jesus as He teaches, prays, and prepares His friends, while the tension grows and some people begin to turn against Him.

Then we enter the Triduum (three holy days): Holy Thursday remembers the Last Supper, the Eucharist, and Jesus washing feet, showing the kind of love that serves. On Good Friday, we remember the Cross and Jesus giving His life for us. Holy Saturday is quiet waiting,

Holy Week ends with Easter, which is the celebration that Jesus is alive. We don’t just remember a sad story. We celebrate the biggest victory ever: Jesus defeats sin and death.

For kids, Holy Week teaches brave love and that Easter hope is real. Jesus chooses goodness even when it’s hard, and that means kids can choose courage, prayer, and kindness too.

Key Takeaways

  • Holy Week is the Church’s biggest week because it tells the true story of Jesus’ love, from Palm Sunday through Easter.
  • Palm Sunday begins Holy Week with palms and “Hosanna,” celebrating Jesus as King even though hard days are coming.
  • The Triduum is the holiest part of Holy Week: Holy Thursday (Last Supper + washing feet), Good Friday (the Cross), and Holy Saturday (quiet waiting).
  • Tenebrae uses candles, Scripture, and silence to help kids feel the story. Darkness grows, but the Light of Christ is never destroyed.
  • The Cross and Stations of the Cross help kids understand: Jesus suffered because He loves us, and we can walk with Him through hard moments.
  • The moral is the heart of Holy Week: love doesn’t end when thing get hard. Jesus stays faithful all the way through, and Easter proves that love wins.

The 8 Days of Holy Week (Kid-Friendly Guide)

Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday is the beginning of Holy Week. Jesus rides into Jerusalem, and people cheer like it’s a parade, waving palms and shouting “Hosanna!” Kids can remember: Jesus is our King… but He’s a humble King.

Holy Monday

Holy Monday is a “stay close to Jesus” day. This is a great day for families to slow down and pray a short prayer together, because Holy Week isn’t a rush. It’s a walk with Jesus.

Holy Tuesday

Holy Tuesday is a day to practice listening. Jesus teaches and prepares His friends for what’s coming. For kids, this can be a simple “use your ears and your heart” day. Read one short Gospel line and ask, “What is Jesus teaching me?”

Spy Wednesday

Spy Wednesday remembers the sadness of betrayal during the Holy  Week, when someone close to Jesus chooses the wrong path. This is a gentle day to talk about choices: peer pressure, joining the crowd, or doing something you know isn’t right.

Holy Thursday

Holy Thursday begins the Triduum. Jesus shares the Last Supper and gives us the Eucharist, and He washes His friends’ feet to show what love looks like: serving, not showing off.

Good Friday

Good Friday is the day we remember Jesus dying on the Cross. It’s sad, but it’s also full of love. The Cross and the Stations of the Cross help kids understand: Jesus didn’t quit. He carried what was heavy because He loves us.

Holy Saturday

Holy Saturday is the quiet waiting day. It can feel dark, like Tenebrae, where candles go out one by one. But the key lesson is this: the Light of Christ is still real, even if it feels hidden.

Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday is the biggest celebration: Jesus is alive! The tomb is empty, the angels announce good news, and everything changes. This is the day kids should feel in their bones: love wins.

Episode Summary

Holy Week can feel like a lot, so this compilation episode pulls the whole season together in one kid-friendly walk-through. It starts with Palm Sunday, when Jesus rides into Jerusalem, and people wave palm branches and shout “Hosanna.” It feels like a celebration, but the episode gently explains that Jesus is heading toward the Cross, and He chooses to keep loving anyway.

Next, the video helps families understand the Triduum, the three holiest days of the year. On Holy Thursday, kids learn about the Last Supper and Jesus washing feet, which shows that real greatness looks like serving. Then Good Friday brings the Cross, the Stations, and the truth that Jesus gave His life out of love, even though it was very sad.

The compilation also includes quiet, reflective prayer moments, like preparing our hearts through prayer (even using simple, calming reflection) and the powerful candle prayer of Tenebrae, where the room grows darker as the story unfolds. But the “last candle” reminds kids that Jesus’ light is never truly gone.

Finally, everything points to where Holy Week always points: Easter. The tomb is empty. Jesus is alive. And that changes what kids can believe about their own lives, too, because with Jesus, hard days aren’t the end of the story.

[00:00:00 --> 00:00:01] Hosanna!
[00:00:01 --> 00:00:02] (light music)
[00:00:02 --> 00:00:04] (palm rattles)
[00:00:04 --> 00:00:05] Hosanna!
[00:00:05 --> 00:00:08] Hi, friends. Today, we are celebrating.
[00:00:08 --> 00:00:10] Why are we celebrating?
[00:00:10 --> 00:00:11] (water splashes)
[00:00:11 --> 00:00:13] Guys, it is Palm Sunday.
[00:00:13 --> 00:00:14] Do you know what that means?
[00:00:14 --> 00:00:15] It's a Sunday with palms!
[00:00:16 --> 00:00:18] That is very true.
[00:00:18 --> 00:00:19] But it's even more than that.
[00:00:19 --> 00:00:20] (water splashes)
[00:00:20 --> 00:00:23] Palm Sunday is the beginning of Holy Week,
[00:00:23 --> 00:00:26] which is one of the most important weeks of the year.
[00:00:26 --> 00:00:29] Father Tim can tell us why this is such an important Sunday
[00:00:29 --> 00:00:33] and why we celebrate with these weird branches.
[00:00:33 --> 00:00:34] "Juice Box."
[00:00:34 --> 00:00:35] (object splats)
[00:00:35 --> 00:00:36] (child giggles)
[00:00:36 --> 00:00:37] What's Palm Sunday?
[00:00:37 --> 00:00:41] Palm Sunday is such a special, special Sunday
[00:00:41 --> 00:00:43] where we get to celebrate Jesus
[00:00:43 --> 00:00:46] coming back to Jerusalem as a King,
[00:00:46 --> 00:00:48] and all of the people of Jerusalem
[00:00:48 --> 00:00:50] have been waiting for the King to come.
[00:00:50 --> 00:00:53] So they lay down Palm branches,
[00:00:53 --> 00:00:56] that Jesus riding on the donkey can walk over.
[00:00:56 --> 00:00:57] Hee-haw!
[00:00:57 --> 00:00:59] So another cool thing about Palm Sunday
[00:00:59 --> 00:01:02] is that it is the beginning of Holy Week.
[00:01:02 --> 00:01:04] What is Holy Week?
[00:01:04 --> 00:01:07] Holy Week is so special because this is the week
[00:01:07 --> 00:01:10] that we celebrate Jesus' love for us.
[00:01:10 --> 00:01:14] We celebrate His life, His death, and His resurrection.
[00:01:14 --> 00:01:15] And so when it comes to Holy Week,
[00:01:15 --> 00:01:18] we save the best for last,
[00:01:18 --> 00:01:21] where the last day of Holy Week we celebrate Easter.
[00:01:21 --> 00:01:23] I love Easter baskets.
[00:01:23 --> 00:01:25] Oh, my favorite Easter candy? Reese's eggs.
[00:01:25 --> 00:01:27] There's nothing better.
[00:01:27 --> 00:01:28] And I think that was Jesus' favorite, too.
[00:01:28 --> 00:01:31] I like eating chocolate bunnies.
[00:01:32 --> 00:01:33] (water splashes)
[00:01:33 --> 00:01:34] But why do we get palm branches?
[00:01:34 --> 00:01:36] So we get palm branches on Sunday
[00:01:36 --> 00:01:39] because that is what happened in the gospel.
[00:01:39 --> 00:01:42] The people were so excited that the King was coming back,
[00:01:42 --> 00:01:45] that they threw palm branches at his feet.
[00:01:45 --> 00:01:48] Is that Jesus? Is He coming?
[00:01:48 --> 00:01:50] We don't really throw branches anymore.
[00:01:50 --> 00:01:51] That may hurt.
[00:01:51 --> 00:01:53] But what we do is we hold the palm branches
[00:01:53 --> 00:01:58] to show a sign of respect for Jesus Christ, our King.
[00:01:58 --> 00:02:01] Isn't Jesus a King?
[00:02:01 --> 00:02:02] Why does He ride a donkey?
[00:02:02 --> 00:02:06] There's a really cool word called a prophecy.
[00:02:06 --> 00:02:09] A prophecy is when someone says something
[00:02:09 --> 00:02:11] that will happen in the future.
[00:02:11 --> 00:02:13] Almost like predicting the future.
[00:02:13 --> 00:02:15] The prophet Isaiah in the Old Testament,
[00:02:15 --> 00:02:17] he has a prophecy about Jesus:
[00:02:17 --> 00:02:21] that the King will come riding on a donkey.
[00:02:21 --> 00:02:23] And he predicts this hundreds of years
[00:02:23 --> 00:02:26] before Jesus even set foot on earth.
[00:02:26 --> 00:02:28] Isn't that amazing?
[00:02:28 --> 00:02:28] (children cheering)
[00:02:28 --> 00:02:30] Jesus riding the donkey?
[00:02:30 --> 00:02:34] It makes the Book of Isaiah so real.
[00:02:34 --> 00:02:35] That's awesome sauce.
[00:02:35 --> 00:02:37] What does hosanna mean?
[00:02:37 --> 00:02:38] Mm.
[00:02:38 --> 00:02:40] Hosanna is such a cool word.
[00:02:40 --> 00:02:42] It is an old Hebrew word,
[00:02:42 --> 00:02:44] and I could say over and over and over.
[00:02:44 --> 00:02:46] Hosanna, hosanna.
[00:02:46 --> 00:02:46] Hosanna.
[00:02:46 --> 00:02:47] I love saying that word.
[00:02:47 --> 00:02:51] And what that word means is giving praise to God,
[00:02:51 --> 00:02:53] and also asking Him to save us.
[00:02:53 --> 00:02:56] So when we say this at mass, "Hosanna in the highest,"
[00:02:56 --> 00:02:59] we are saying, "Jesus, we give You all praise.
[00:02:59 --> 00:03:02] We love You so much. Please save us."
[00:03:02 --> 00:03:03] (water splashes)
[00:03:03 --> 00:03:05] What do we do with the palms?
[00:03:05 --> 00:03:07] So did you know that the ashes
[00:03:07 --> 00:03:09] that we get on Ash Wednesday
[00:03:09 --> 00:03:14] that is traced on our forehead come from burnt palms?
[00:03:14 --> 00:03:16] All the palms that we use on Palm Sunday,
[00:03:16 --> 00:03:20] they're used for all the ashes on Ash Wednesday.
[00:03:20 --> 00:03:21] But for the rest of the year,
[00:03:21 --> 00:03:23] you can take the palms home
[00:03:23 --> 00:03:27] and place them behind one of your crucifixes,
[00:03:27 --> 00:03:29] you can put it in your room, under your Bible,
[00:03:29 --> 00:03:31] or under your rosary.
[00:03:31 --> 00:03:33] You can even do a little arts and crafts
[00:03:33 --> 00:03:36] and make a cross out of the palms.
[00:03:36 --> 00:03:38] You can do so many things
[00:03:38 --> 00:03:42] that remind you that Jesus is the King of our hearts.
[00:03:42 --> 00:03:43] Okay, Juice Boxers.
[00:03:43 --> 00:03:45] I love Palms Sunday, and I hope you do too,
[00:03:45 --> 00:03:49] and I hope you all have an amazing, amazing Palm Sunday.
[00:03:49 --> 00:03:52] Just remember, Jesus, He's our King,
[00:03:52 --> 00:03:54] and He is the best King that we can possibly have.
[00:03:54 --> 00:03:58] And so wave those palms high at mass for Sunday
[00:03:58 --> 00:04:01] and remind yourself you have the best King ever.
[00:04:01 --> 00:04:02] Yee!
[00:04:02 --> 00:04:04] (speaker speaks indistinctly)
[00:04:04 --> 00:04:05] (palm rattling)
[00:04:05 --> 00:04:07] Juice Boxers, I hope you have an amazing Holy Week
[00:04:07 --> 00:04:09] and amazing Palm Sunday.
[00:04:09 --> 00:04:10] I am praying for you so much.
[00:04:10 --> 00:04:12] Can't wait to see you next time. Bye, bye.
[00:04:12 --> 00:04:15] Clippity-clop, clippity-clop.
[00:04:15 --> 00:04:16] Jesus was so mad.
[00:04:16 --> 00:04:18] Cock-a-doodle-doo!
[00:04:18 --> 00:04:21] So many important things happen during Holy Week.
[00:04:21 --> 00:04:22] Blech!
[00:04:22 --> 00:04:23] I asked some of my friends
[00:04:23 --> 00:04:24] to help me tell the story.
[00:04:24 --> 00:04:26] That's amazing.
[00:04:26 --> 00:04:27] Let's go.
[00:04:27 --> 00:04:28] "Juice Box."
[00:04:28 --> 00:04:29] (object splats)
[00:04:29 --> 00:04:30] (child giggles)
[00:04:30 --> 00:04:32] Holy Week starts with Palm Sunday.
[00:04:32 --> 00:04:35] That's the day we get palms at church.
[00:04:35 --> 00:04:38] Jesus was coming to Jerusalem.
[00:04:38 --> 00:04:41] He was a really big deal.
[00:04:41 --> 00:04:43] Jesus told two of His apostles
[00:04:43 --> 00:04:45] to go to the next village
[00:04:45 --> 00:04:47] and get a donkey that no one had ridden on.
[00:04:47 --> 00:04:50] "Excuse me. You're stealing my donkey."
[00:04:50 --> 00:04:52] They told the owner,
[00:04:52 --> 00:04:54] "The master has need of it."
[00:04:54 --> 00:04:56] Oh, okay, I guess.
[00:04:57 --> 00:05:01] Then Jesus rode the donkey into Jerusalem.
[00:05:01 --> 00:05:05] Clipitty-clop, clippity-clop, clippity-clop.
[00:05:05 --> 00:05:06] Hee-haw!
[00:05:06 --> 00:05:09] They were throwing lots of palms.
[00:05:09 --> 00:05:11] It was like a red carpet, but it was green.
[00:05:11 --> 00:05:12] It was palms.
[00:05:12 --> 00:05:16] They were all saying, "Hosanna, hosanna!"
[00:05:16 --> 00:05:17] "Where's Jesus?
[00:05:17 --> 00:05:18] "He's over here."
[00:05:18 --> 00:05:21] Everyone was like, "Who is this guy?"
[00:05:21 --> 00:05:24] The chief priest didn't believe that Jesus was God.
[00:05:24 --> 00:05:26] "Why is He so important?
[00:05:26 --> 00:05:27] We're more important than Him."
[00:05:29 --> 00:05:31] Then Jesus went to the temple
[00:05:31 --> 00:05:33] and saw people selling stuff.
[00:05:33 --> 00:05:35] They were selling toys, and animals-
[00:05:38 --> 00:05:40] Chickens, doves.
[00:05:40 --> 00:05:43] Horses, rhinos, cows.
[00:05:43 --> 00:05:45] Jesus was so mad.
[00:05:45 --> 00:05:48] A hundred and thousand mad.
[00:05:48 --> 00:05:50] He flipped a bunch of tables.
[00:05:50 --> 00:05:51] He made a big mess.
[00:05:51 --> 00:05:52] (objects clattering)
[00:05:52 --> 00:05:54] (object shattering)
[00:05:54 --> 00:05:55] (child imitating object shattering)
[00:05:55 --> 00:05:57] "Get outta here!"
[00:05:57 --> 00:05:59] "This is my Father's house.
[00:05:59 --> 00:06:02] What are you doing? You can't sell stuff here.
[00:06:02 --> 00:06:03] Get outta here!"
[00:06:04 --> 00:06:06] Jesus stayed in Jerusalem
[00:06:06 --> 00:06:08] and taught the people there.
[00:06:08 --> 00:06:10] He taught them all types of lessons.
[00:06:10 --> 00:06:12] Jesus is a great teacher.
[00:06:12 --> 00:06:15] Now it's spy Wednesday.
[00:06:15 --> 00:06:16] (tinkling music)
[00:06:16 --> 00:06:18] Wednesday took a twist.
[00:06:18 --> 00:06:20] Dun, dun, duuun!
[00:06:20 --> 00:06:22] 'Cause there's a spy, a bad one.
[00:06:22 --> 00:06:23] Judas.
[00:06:23 --> 00:06:25] (tinkling music)
[00:06:25 --> 00:06:27] Judas went to the priests,
[00:06:27 --> 00:06:30] and he told them where Jesus was.
[00:06:30 --> 00:06:32] And they paid him silver.
[00:06:32 --> 00:06:33] That was a really bad thing.
[00:06:33 --> 00:06:35] Best friends hurt you.
[00:06:35 --> 00:06:38] Now the next day, it's The Last Supper.
[00:06:38 --> 00:06:39] They were eating dinner.
[00:06:39 --> 00:06:41] Bread, wine.
[00:06:41 --> 00:06:43] Chicken, hamburgers.
[00:06:43 --> 00:06:44] Donuts.
[00:06:44 --> 00:06:45] They were having dinner,
[00:06:45 --> 00:06:47] and Jesus said something crazy.
[00:06:49 --> 00:06:50] What?
[00:06:50 --> 00:06:54] Jesus told the apostles that one would betray Him.
[00:06:54 --> 00:06:57] All the apostles were really worried.
[00:06:57 --> 00:06:58] "Who is it?
[00:06:58 --> 00:06:59] Is it me? Is it you?"
[00:06:59 --> 00:07:03] But Jesus and Judas knew who it was.
[00:07:03 --> 00:07:06] After they had dinner, Jesus took the bread.
[00:07:06 --> 00:07:08] "Take this all of you and eat it,
[00:07:08 --> 00:07:12] for this is my body, which will be given up for you."
[00:07:12 --> 00:07:14] And then He took the chalice.
[00:07:14 --> 00:07:16] "This is my blood."
[00:07:16 --> 00:07:18] The disciples were pretty confused.
[00:07:18 --> 00:07:22] Then Jesus and Peter were talking.
[00:07:22 --> 00:07:26] Jesus told Peter that he would betray Him.
[00:07:26 --> 00:07:28] And Peter said, "No way, Jesus.
[00:07:28 --> 00:07:30] You're my best friend."
[00:07:30 --> 00:07:31] But he did do it.
[00:07:31 --> 00:07:33] Jesus went to pray in the garden.
[00:07:33 --> 00:07:35] He prayed and prayed and prayed.
[00:07:35 --> 00:07:37] Jesus was sweating blood.
[00:07:37 --> 00:07:40] That means Jesus was praying really hard.
[00:07:40 --> 00:07:43] God, I know it's going to be terrible.
[00:07:43 --> 00:07:45] Do I have to do it?
[00:07:45 --> 00:07:47] But if I have to, then I have to.
[00:07:47 --> 00:07:50] The apostles were super sleepy.
[00:07:50 --> 00:07:53] (child snoring)
[00:07:53 --> 00:07:55] (child snoring)
[00:07:57 --> 00:07:59] (child wheezing)
[00:07:59 --> 00:08:00] Jesus woke them up.
[00:08:00 --> 00:08:02] "Can't you stay awake for one hour?"
[00:08:02 --> 00:08:04] Then things took a turn.
[00:08:06 --> 00:08:07] (child gasps)
[00:08:07 --> 00:08:08] Then the guards came.
[00:08:08 --> 00:08:10] They arrested Jesus.
[00:08:10 --> 00:08:12] "Come on, Jesus, you're arrested."
[00:08:12 --> 00:08:16] They tied Jesus up.
[00:08:16 --> 00:08:18] "You're going to jail."
[00:08:18 --> 00:08:20] Jesus didn't even do anything wrong.
[00:08:20 --> 00:08:22] Peter was so upset.
[00:08:22 --> 00:08:24] He took his sword and-
[00:08:24 --> 00:08:24] (child grunting)
[00:08:24 --> 00:08:28] He was so mad he cut a man's ear off.
[00:08:28 --> 00:08:28] "Oh, my ear!"
[00:08:28 --> 00:08:31] Jesus said, "Peter, calm down."
[00:08:31 --> 00:08:33] But Jesus put the ear back on. Heal.
[00:08:33 --> 00:08:37] "That's super nice, even for our enemy."
[00:08:37 --> 00:08:39] They do it the easy way.
[00:08:39 --> 00:08:41] They're really mean to Jesus.
[00:08:41 --> 00:08:45] They took Jesus to the big dog priests,
[00:08:45 --> 00:08:48] and they were asking him all types of questions.
[00:08:48 --> 00:08:51] While they were doing that, Peter was standing outside.
[00:08:51 --> 00:08:54] "Aren't you one of Jesus' apostles?"
[00:08:54 --> 00:08:55] Peter wasn't that brave.
[00:08:55 --> 00:08:57] "I don't know that guy."
[00:08:57 --> 00:08:59] Peter was lying.
[00:08:59 --> 00:09:03] Cock-a-doodle-do! (rooster crows)
[00:09:03 --> 00:09:04] That was only Thursday.
[00:09:04 --> 00:09:06] Friday was the worst.
[00:09:06 --> 00:09:08] Jesus went to Pilate.
[00:09:08 --> 00:09:10] Pilate wasn't like an airplane pilot.
[00:09:10 --> 00:09:13] Pilate was a very powerful guy.
[00:09:13 --> 00:09:14] He could order people around.
[00:09:14 --> 00:09:16] "Make me a sandwich."
[00:09:16 --> 00:09:17] "Clean my bathroom."
[00:09:17 --> 00:09:19] Pilate wasn't being nice.
[00:09:19 --> 00:09:21] Pilate turned to the people and said,
[00:09:21 --> 00:09:26] "Do you want this bad guy Barabbas or this good guy Jesus?"
[00:09:26 --> 00:09:28] They chose Barabbas.
[00:09:28 --> 00:09:29] "Ha, ha, ha."
[00:09:29 --> 00:09:32] I don't think Pilate was expecting that.
[00:09:32 --> 00:09:36] Pilate cared too much about what other people thought.
[00:09:36 --> 00:09:40] To make them feel better, he had Jesus scourged.
[00:09:40 --> 00:09:43] Jesus got hit a lot.
[00:09:43 --> 00:09:45] (child spewing)
[00:09:45 --> 00:09:46] Ow, ow, ow.
[00:09:46 --> 00:09:48] But that wasn't enough for the people.
[00:09:48 --> 00:09:50] The crowd started shouting-
[00:09:50 --> 00:09:53] "Crucify Him, crucify Him!"
[00:09:53 --> 00:09:55] Soldiers took Jesus away.
[00:09:55 --> 00:09:58] They dressed Him up like a king and made fun of Him.
[00:09:58 --> 00:10:00] They put a crown of thorns on Him.
[00:10:00 --> 00:10:03] They put a big heavy cross on Him.
[00:10:03 --> 00:10:04] "Oh, it's so heavy."
[00:10:04 --> 00:10:06] It was a million pounds.
[00:10:06 --> 00:10:11] Jesus was so tired, and He fell three times.
[00:10:11 --> 00:10:13] A man named Simon came to help Him.

[00:49:55 --> 00:49:59] Mm, maybe another egg will tell us
[00:49:59 --> 00:50:01] what that amazing thing was.
[00:50:01 --> 00:50:02] Let's open another egg.
[00:50:02 --> 00:50:03] (eggs clatter)
[00:50:03 --> 00:50:04] Let's see what it is.
[00:50:05 --> 00:50:09] (gasps) It's a rock?
[00:50:09 --> 00:50:11] (dismayed music)
[00:50:11 --> 00:50:12] Ohh.
[00:50:12 --> 00:50:16] A huge stone was rolled in front of Jesus' tomb.
[00:50:16 --> 00:50:19] Can you pretend to roll a big rock with me?
[00:50:19 --> 00:50:20] Let's push.
[00:50:20 --> 00:50:22] (dramatic music)
[00:50:22 --> 00:50:25] (speaker grunts)
[00:50:25 --> 00:50:27] (ground rumbling)
[00:50:27 --> 00:50:29] (dramatic music continues)
[00:50:29 --> 00:50:30] (audio dings)
[00:50:30 --> 00:50:33] Oh, that rock was really heavy.
[00:50:33 --> 00:50:36] But on Easter morning, the stone,
[00:50:36 --> 00:50:39] that big, heavy stone that was in front of Jesus' tomb
[00:50:39 --> 00:50:41] was rolled away.
[00:50:41 --> 00:50:44] Who do you think would roll such a heavy stone away?
[00:50:44 --> 00:50:47] Hmm, someone really strong.
[00:50:47 --> 00:50:50] (eggs clatter)
[00:50:50 --> 00:50:51] Let's open up another pink egg.
[00:50:53 --> 00:50:53] Whoa.
[00:50:54 --> 00:50:58] When Jesus died, His friends wrapped Him up in cloth
[00:50:58 --> 00:51:00] and placed Him in the tomb.
[00:51:00 --> 00:51:02] But when the disciples came back,
[00:51:02 --> 00:51:04] the cloths were still there.
[00:51:04 --> 00:51:07] Jesus didn't need them anymore.
[00:51:07 --> 00:51:09] Because He wasn't dead,
[00:51:09 --> 00:51:11] He had risen from the dead.
[00:51:11 --> 00:51:13] The cloths were left behind to show us
[00:51:13 --> 00:51:17] that death was finished and Jesus was alive.
[00:51:17 --> 00:51:18] (fanfare music)
[00:51:18 --> 00:51:20] We have a few more eggs left. Let's go open them.
[00:51:20 --> 00:51:22] (eggs clatter)
[00:51:22 --> 00:51:24] Whoa, this egg is stuffed.
[00:51:24 --> 00:51:25] Let's see what's inside.
[00:51:26 --> 00:51:28] (speaker gasps)
[00:51:28 --> 00:51:31] There's one, (jaunty music)
[00:51:31 --> 00:51:32] two,
[00:51:33 --> 00:51:36] three women.
[00:51:36 --> 00:51:39] These are three women who loved Jesus very much.
[00:51:39 --> 00:51:41] We have Mary Magdalene,
[00:51:41 --> 00:51:45] Mary the mother of James, and Salome.
[00:51:45 --> 00:51:48] Early on Easter morning, the women went to the tomb.
[00:51:49 --> 00:51:50] But when they arrived,
[00:51:50 --> 00:51:52] the stone had already been rolled away
[00:51:52 --> 00:51:57] and the tomb was open, and someone was waiting for them.
[00:51:57 --> 00:52:00] Okay, let's put this one away and open up another one.
[00:52:00 --> 00:52:03] (eggs clatter)
[00:52:03 --> 00:52:05] Did you see this yellow egg? It's so bright.
[00:52:05 --> 00:52:07] I wonder what's inside.
[00:52:08 --> 00:52:10] It's an angel!
[00:52:10 --> 00:52:13] The angel that was waiting at the tomb.
[00:52:13 --> 00:52:15] The angel said something amazing.
[00:52:15 --> 00:52:17] He said, (clears throat)
[00:52:17 --> 00:52:20] "Do not be afraid.
[00:52:20 --> 00:52:24] Jesus is not here. Jesus has risen!"
[00:52:24 --> 00:52:27] That means Jesus rose from the dead.
[00:52:27 --> 00:52:28] He's alive!
[00:52:28 --> 00:52:32] Can you say, "He is risen"?
[00:52:32 --> 00:52:34] He is risen!
[00:52:34 --> 00:52:36] Did anyone else go to the tomb?
[00:52:36 --> 00:52:38] Hmm, let's see.
[00:52:38 --> 00:52:41] (eggs clatter)
[00:52:41 --> 00:52:45] Mm, I don't think we've opened a green egg yet.
[00:52:45 --> 00:52:47] What's in here?
[00:52:48 --> 00:52:53] (gasps) We have one, two men.
[00:52:54 --> 00:52:56] Who are these two guys?
[00:52:56 --> 00:53:00] These are Jesus' apostles, Peter and John.
[00:53:00 --> 00:53:03] They were His friends and followers.
[00:53:03 --> 00:53:05] They heard that the tomb might be empty,
[00:53:05 --> 00:53:07] so they ran to go see it.
[00:53:07 --> 00:53:09] Can you run with me?
[00:53:09 --> 00:53:10] Come on, let's run.
[00:53:10 --> 00:53:12] (whimsical music)
[00:53:12 --> 00:53:13] Come on, run faster.
[00:53:13 --> 00:53:17] (whimsical music continues)
[00:53:18 --> 00:53:22] When they got to the tomb, they looked inside,
[00:53:22 --> 00:53:26] but all they saw was the cloth, and Jesus was gone.
[00:53:26 --> 00:53:29] Where did Jesus go? What happened to Jesus?
[00:53:29 --> 00:53:31] Let's keep opening some more eggs.
[00:53:31 --> 00:53:33] (eggs clatter)
[00:53:33 --> 00:53:37] Friends, this egg is the most important egg.
[00:53:37 --> 00:53:40] Everything that we've opened before this,
[00:53:40 --> 00:53:45] like the friends, the cross, the rock, or the angel,
[00:53:45 --> 00:53:48] they all lead up to this egg.
[00:53:48 --> 00:53:49] Let's shake it.
[00:53:50 --> 00:53:51] (audience gasps)
[00:53:51 --> 00:53:53] What do you think is inside?
[00:53:53 --> 00:53:54] (audience gasps)
[00:53:54 --> 00:53:56] Let's open it.
[00:53:56 --> 00:53:58] (suspenseful music)
[00:53:58 --> 00:53:58] It's
[00:54:00 --> 00:54:01] Jesus!
[00:54:01 --> 00:54:03] (audience cheering) (audience applauding)
[00:54:03 --> 00:54:06] Jesus truly died on the cross.
[00:54:06 --> 00:54:08] His friends put Him in the tomb.
[00:54:08 --> 00:54:12] But on the third day, something amazing happened.
[00:54:12 --> 00:54:14] Jesus rose from the dead.
[00:54:14 --> 00:54:16] He came back to life.
[00:54:16 --> 00:54:19] He defeated sin, He defeated death,
[00:54:19 --> 00:54:22] and now He's alive forever.
[00:54:22 --> 00:54:23] Weew! Yay!
[00:54:26 --> 00:54:28] That's why we celebrate Easter.
[00:54:28 --> 00:54:32] Jesus didn't stay in the tomb, He is risen.
[00:54:32 --> 00:54:35] Can you say that with me? Jesus is risen!
[00:54:35 --> 00:54:36] (eggs clatter)
[00:54:36 --> 00:54:38] We still have some eggs.
[00:54:38 --> 00:54:39] (eggs clatter)
[00:54:39 --> 00:54:41] What else can they be?
[00:54:41 --> 00:54:41] (eggs clatter)
[00:54:41 --> 00:54:44] Let's open this pink one.
[00:54:46 --> 00:54:48] Oh, a bunny.
[00:54:48 --> 00:54:49] (bunny toy squeaks)
[00:54:49 --> 00:54:52] Now, bunnies aren't in the Easter story in the Bible,
[00:54:52 --> 00:54:54] but they do remind us of something important.
[00:54:54 --> 00:54:58] Bunnies became a symbol of new life.
[00:54:58 --> 00:55:01] And Easter is the greatest story of new life
[00:55:01 --> 00:55:05] because Jesus gave us new life.
[00:55:05 --> 00:55:09] In the springtime, we see new life everywhere.
[00:55:09 --> 00:55:12] Flowers grow, baby animals are born,
[00:55:12 --> 00:55:13] like baby bunnies.
[00:55:13 --> 00:55:15] Will you hop like a bunny with me?
[00:55:15 --> 00:55:18] Hop, hop, hop, hop, hop, hop.
[00:55:18 --> 00:55:20] (eggs clatter)
[00:55:20 --> 00:55:23] (chicks chirping)
[00:55:23 --> 00:55:25] Do you hear that?
[00:55:26 --> 00:55:28] Where is that sound coming from?
[00:55:29 --> 00:55:31] I think it's in this one.
[00:55:32 --> 00:55:35] (gasps) It's a little baby chick.
[00:55:36 --> 00:55:40] Chicks start their life inside of an egg.
[00:55:40 --> 00:55:43] From the outside, it just looks like a shell.
[00:55:43 --> 00:55:46] But on the inside, something really special is happening.
[00:55:46 --> 00:55:50] One day, the shell will break open
[00:55:50 --> 00:55:53] and out comes new life.
[00:55:53 --> 00:55:55] Does that remind you of something?
[00:55:55 --> 00:55:56] Hmm.
[00:55:57 --> 00:56:00] The tomb on Easter morning, that's right.
[00:56:00 --> 00:56:05] The tomb was closed, but then Jesus came out alive.
[00:56:05 --> 00:56:08] Just like the chick comes out of the egg,
[00:56:08 --> 00:56:13] Jesus rose from the tomb and brought new life to the world.
[00:56:13 --> 00:56:15] (eggs clatter)
[00:56:15 --> 00:56:17] We've opened a lot of eggs today.
[00:56:17 --> 00:56:19] We have one more.
[00:56:19 --> 00:56:20] Let's open it.
[00:56:22 --> 00:56:27] Look, a little boy and a little girl.
[00:56:27 --> 00:56:28] Just like you.
[00:56:28 --> 00:56:30] The Easter story isn't just something
[00:56:30 --> 00:56:32] that happened long ago,
[00:56:32 --> 00:56:34] you're part of that story too.
[00:56:34 --> 00:56:37] So when we celebrate Easter,
[00:56:37 --> 00:56:39] we're celebrating something that Jesus did
[00:56:39 --> 00:56:41] for the whole world.
[00:56:41 --> 00:56:44] He did it for you, and He did it for me.
[00:56:44 --> 00:56:47] That means we can follow Jesus,
[00:56:47 --> 00:56:51] love others, and share the good news.
[00:56:51 --> 00:56:52] (eggs clatter)
[00:56:52 --> 00:56:54] That was so much fun.
[00:56:54 --> 00:56:57] I loved opening all those surprise Easter eggs with you.
[00:56:57 --> 00:56:58] Which one is your favorite?
[00:56:58 --> 00:57:01] Let's say the Easter message together. Ready?
[00:57:01 --> 00:57:04] Jesus is risen. Alleluia!
[00:57:04 --> 00:57:06] Don't forget to subscribe to "Juice Box"
[00:57:06 --> 00:57:08] so you don't miss any surprises.
[00:57:08 --> 00:57:10] Happy Easter, friends.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is Holy Week for kids?

Holy Week is the week when Christians remember what happened to Jesus right before Easter. It includes Palm Sunday, the Last Supper, Jesus dying on the Cross, and His Resurrection. It’s important because it shows how much Jesus loves us.

What happens during Holy Week in order?

Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday. Then come Holy Monday, Holy Tuesday, and Spy Wednesday, when Jesus teaches, prays, and the week gets more serious as betrayal draws near. Next is the Triduum: Holy Thursday (Last Supper and washing feet), Good Friday (Jesus dies on the Cross), and Holy Saturday (quiet waiting). Finally, Easter Sunday celebrates that Jesus rises from the dead. It’s one story that moves from love, to sacrifice, to victory.

What is the Triduum (explained for kids)?

The Triduum is three holy days during Holy Week: Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. These days help us focus on Jesus’ greatest love, His sacrifice, and prepare our hearts for Easter. Think of it like the “most important three days” of the whole year.

What is Tenebrae and why do we do it in Holy Week?

Tenebrae is a candle prayer service during Holy Week where candles are extinguished one by one as we hear the Passion story. The darkness helps kids understand the sadness and seriousness of what Jesus went through. But one light remains, reminding us that Jesus’ light is never destroyed.

How can families celebrate Holy Week at home with kids?

Keep it simple: talk about one day at a time, pray a short prayer, and use one small symbol (palms, a candle, a cross). You can do a kid-friendly Stations of the Cross, try a Tenebrae-style candle prayer, or read the Easter story together. The goal isn’t perfection but helping kids walk with Jesus.

What Is Easter? (Explaining Easter with Surprise Eggs for Kids)

In this Juice Box episode, kids learn the true story of Easter through surprise Easter eggs, each one revealing a clue that helps families walk step-by-step from Jesus’ death to the joy of the Resurrection.

What Is Easter and Why Do We Celebrate It? (For Kids)

Easter is the day Christians celebrate that Jesus rose from the dead. Jesus died on the cross because He loves us, and He came back to life to save us and give us new life.

This episode uses surprise Easter eggs to tell the story in a kid-friendly way. Each egg holds a symbol, like water for Baptism, a lamb for Jesus the Lamb of God, the cross, the stone, the linen cloth, and the angels and friends who discovered the empty tomb.

By the end, kids see the big message: the tomb is empty because Jesus is alive. And Easter isn’t just a happy ending, it’s the biggest victory ever.

For kids, Easter teaches that God’s love is stronger than sin, stronger than fear, and even stronger than death, so we can live with hope, even on hard days.

Key Takeaways

  • Easter is the celebration that Jesus is alive. He rose from the dead and gives us new life.
  • Jesus died on the cross out of love, and the Resurrection proves that love wins.
  • The surprise eggs teach the story using real Easter symbols: Baptism water, the Lamb of God, the cross, the guards, the stone, and the linen cloth.
  • The empty tomb is the big turning point. Jesus’ friends find it open, and angels announce the good news.
  • The story moves from sadness to joy: the cross and tomb are real… but they’re not the last word.
  • The moral is simple: because Jesus rose, kids can choose courage and hope. God can bring light even when things feel dark.

Episode Summary

Julia finds a basket full of colorful Easter eggs, but these aren’t just “candy eggs.” Each one has a surprise inside that helps tell the true story of Easter. It’s like a treasure hunt, but the treasure is the best news ever: Jesus is alive.

The eggs walk kids through what Easter really means. Water points to Baptism and new life. A lamb reminds us that Jesus is the Lamb of God. A cross brings us to Good Friday. A guard, a rock, and a linen cloth help kids picture the tomb and what happened when Jesus died.

Then the story turns: three women go to the tomb, an angel appears, and the message is clear. Jesus isn’t there. He’s risen. The final surprises bring it home: Jesus is alive, and Easter joy spills into our world, yes, even into bunnies and chicks and all the happy signs of spring.

[00:00:00 --> 00:00:01] Hi, friends.
[00:00:01 --> 00:00:03] Look what I have today.
[00:00:03 --> 00:00:07] I was out walking in the field when I saw a colorful egg.
[00:00:07 --> 00:00:11] And then I saw another one and another one.
[00:00:11 --> 00:00:14] So I collected all of the eggs and I put them
[00:00:14 --> 00:00:15] in this basket.
[00:00:15 --> 00:00:18] A basket full of Easter eggs.
[00:00:18 --> 00:00:20] Do you see all these different colors?
[00:00:20 --> 00:00:25] There's pink and there's green and orange
[00:00:25 --> 00:00:26] and blue and yellow.
[00:00:26 --> 00:00:28] So many different colors.
[00:00:28 --> 00:00:33] But these aren't just regular Easter eggs. Hmm?
[00:00:33 --> 00:00:37] I think that inside each Easter egg is a surprise.
[00:00:37 --> 00:00:41] A surprise that tells us the true story of Easter.
[00:00:41 --> 00:00:46] The story of Jesus. Are you ready?
[00:00:46 --> 00:00:50] Let's go open them together. - Juice box.
[00:00:52 --> 00:00:54] Do you hear that? (water splashing)
[00:00:54 --> 00:00:59] It sounds like splashing and the egg is kind of wet.
[00:01:01 --> 00:01:03] It's water!
[00:01:03 --> 00:01:05] Jesus died for our sins.
[00:01:05 --> 00:01:10] Then on Easter, he rose to give us new life as sons
[00:01:10 --> 00:01:12] and daughters of God.
[00:01:12 --> 00:01:15] During baptism, when the water is poured and washed away
[00:01:15 --> 00:01:19] our sins, we become part of God's family.
[00:01:19 --> 00:01:23] Let's open another egg. (eggs clattering)
[00:01:23 --> 00:01:24] What could it be?
[00:01:24 --> 00:01:29] Let's open it. Ooh. it's a little lamb.
[00:01:30 --> 00:01:34] What sound does a lamb make? Baa!
[00:01:34 --> 00:01:38] In the Bible, Jesus is called the Lamb of God.
[00:01:38 --> 00:01:40] Lambs are so cute
[00:01:40 --> 00:01:45] and soft and their fleece is as white as snow.
[00:01:45 --> 00:01:50] A long time ago, lambs were offered as a sacrifice to God.
[00:01:51 --> 00:01:54] A sacrifice is something given completely in love.
[00:01:54 --> 00:01:59] Well, Jesus became the perfect sacrifice. The Lamb of God.
[00:02:01 --> 00:02:05] He gave his life to take away all the sins of the world.
[00:02:05 --> 00:02:10] Now these little lambs remind us of how much Jesus wants us.
[00:02:10 --> 00:02:13] Okay, little lamb, let's open some more eggs.
[00:02:13 --> 00:02:15] (eggs clattering)
[00:02:15 --> 00:02:20] Let's open another one. Ooh, that's a fun sound.
[00:02:20 --> 00:02:23] (gasps) Wow. Look at this.
[00:02:24 --> 00:02:27] It's a cross with Jesus on it.
[00:02:27 --> 00:02:30] The cross is where Jesus died.
[00:02:30 --> 00:02:33] But the cross is also the greatest sign of love,
[00:02:33 --> 00:02:38] because Jesus chose to give his life to us here
[00:02:38 --> 00:02:42] on the cross in the name of the Father and the Son
[00:02:42 --> 00:02:44] and the Holy Spirit.
[00:02:44 --> 00:02:49] Every time we do that, we remember Jesus on the cross.
[00:02:49 --> 00:02:50] (eggs clattering)

Easter eggs can remind us of new life. This episode uses eggs as a fun way to “open” the Easter story step-by-step. Each egg becomes a little lesson that points back to Jesus and the Resurrection.

What does the empty tomb mean?

The empty tomb means Jesus is not dead. He rose from the dead. His friends came to the tomb expecting sadness, but they found hope. It’s the proof that Easter is real: Jesus is alive.

What are some Catholic Easter symbols kids should know?

Kids can remember water (Baptism), the lamb (Jesus the Lamb of God), the cross (Jesus’ love), the stone and linen cloth (the tomb), and the angel (the good news). These symbols help tell the story without needing big words.

Pray Along Tenebrae (For Kids and Families)

In this Juice Box episode, kids and parents will learn what Tenebrae is, what the candles mean, and how this quiet Holy Week prayer helps our hearts remember Jesus’ love all the way to the Cross.

What is Tenebrae and Why Is It Important for Kids?

Tenebrae is a special Holy Week prayer service that helps us “feel” the story of Jesus’ Passion. The word Tenebrae means darkness or shadows, and the prayer is usually done on Holy Thursday or Good Friday.

During Tenebrae, we light candles and listen to readings about what Jesus suffered. After each reading, we extinguish one candle, and the room gets darker and darker, like how the world felt darker as Jesus was rejected, hurt, and crucified.

At the end, one candle is not destroyed. It may be hidden for a moment, but it stays lit because the Light of Christ is never destroyed, even when it feels hidden.

For kids, Tenebrae teaches that Jesus stayed faithful in the darkest moment and that even when life feels scary or sad, God’s light is still real and Easter hope is on the way.

Key Takeaways

  • Tenebrae is a Holy Week prayer that uses candles + Scripture + silence to help us remember Jesus’ love and suffering.
  • Each candle going out shows how things felt darker and darker as Jesus was rejected, mocked, and hurt.
  • Jesus stays calm and faithful even when He’s blamed unfairly, and He doesn’t fight back with hate.
  • Simon helping carry the cross reminds us: sometimes we need help, and sometimes we’re called to help someone else.
  • One candle is never destroyed (even if it’s hidden), teaching that Jesus is still the Light, even when we can’t see it.
  • The moral is simple: when darkness shows up, we don’t panic, we stay close to Jesus, pray, and trust that His light will win.

Episode Summary

Tenebrae is one of the quietest prayers of Holy Week, and that’s kind of the point. Fr. Tim explains that during Holy Week, the Church gets slower and more serious, because we’re remembering how much Jesus loves us all the way to the Cross.

In this family version of Tenebrae, you light candles and hear the Passion story in small parts. After each reading, a candle is extinguished. The room gets darker, and the silence gets deeper, helping kids understand that Jesus’ suffering was real.

The prayer also includes moments that kids can connect to: being blamed for something you didn’t do, feeling pressure to follow the crowd, watching someone get hurt, needing help carrying hard things, and feeling afraid in the dark.

At the end, the final candle is not destroyed. It may be hidden, but it returns still burning. Then the family prays together: “Christ be our Light.” Tenebrae helps kids feel the sadness of Good Friday so the joy of Easter shines even brighter.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do we explain Tenebrae to kids?

Tenebrae is a Holy Week prayer service that helps kids understand Jesus’ Passion using candles, Scripture, and silence. As candles go out, the room gets darker to show how the world felt darker as Jesus suffered. It ends with a reminder that Jesus is still the Light.

What does Tenebrae mean?

Tenebrae is a Latin word that means darkness or shadows. The name fits because the prayer uses darkness and silence to help us remember what Jesus went through before Easter.

Why do Catholics extinguish candles during Tenebrae?

Each candle going out is like a picture of the world growing darker as Jesus is rejected and crucified. It helps kids “see” the story with their eyes, not just hear it with their ears. It also teaches that faith can stay strong even in hard moments.

Why is the last candle not blown out?

Because the Light of Christ is never destroyed. The final candle may be hidden for a moment to represent Jesus being placed in the tomb, but it returns still lit. That’s the hopeful message: darkness doesn’t win.

Is Tenebrae appropriate for children?

It can be emotional, but a family Tenebrae can be very gentle and kid-friendly. The key is pacing, short readings, and simple explanations. Kids usually respond well because it’s quiet, visual, and ends with hope.

If your kids asked a big faith question this week, you’re not alone. Subscribe so you’ve always got a short, safe, Catholic video ready for car rides, bedtime, or Sunday prep.

What Is Holy Week? (Catholic Holy Week Explained for Kids)

In this Juice Box episode, kids help tell the story of Holy Week in a simple, memorable way so families can understand what happened to Jesus and why Easter is the biggest win ever.

What Is Holy Week in the Catholic Church? (Explained Simply for Kids)

Holy Week is the most important week of the whole year for Christians. It’s when we remember Jesus’s last days, what He did, what He suffered, and how much He loves us.

It starts with Palm Sunday, when Jesus enters Jerusalem like a king on a donkey. Then we walk through the Last Supper, Jesus praying in the Garden, His arrest, and the hard day of Good Friday when Jesus dies on the cross.

But Holy Week doesn’t end in sadness. After the quiet of Holy Saturday, Easter Sunday arrives, and Jesus rises from the dead.

For kids, Holy Week teaches that Jesus chose love even when it cost Him something. And because He rose again, kids can learn this simple truth: even when things feel dark, Easter always comes.

Key Takeaways

  • Holy Week is when we remember what happened to Jesus before Easter, His Passion, death, and Resurrection.
  • Palm Sunday celebrates Jesus entering Jerusalem while people shouted “Hosanna” and waved palm branches as if it were a parade.
  • During the week, Jesus shares the Last Supper, prays in deep sadness in the Garden, and is betrayed and arrested, even though He did nothing wrong.
  • Peter panics and denies Jesus, showing how fear can make us forget who we are, but it also shows that we can come back and be forgiven.
  • On Good Friday, Jesus carries the cross, is crucified, and dies for us because His love is stronger than pain.
  • The story ends with hope: Holy Saturday is quiet and heavy, but Easter Sunday is victory. Jesus defeats death, and that changes everything.

Episode Summary

Holy Week can feel like a lot, so this episode lets kids help tell the story in a way that’s clear, honest, and still age-appropriate. It starts with Palm Sunday, when Jesus rides into Jerusalem, and people treat it like a big celebration. But not everyone is happy about Jesus being there, and the tension begins to build.

Next, the kids walk through the major moments: Jesus teaches, the betrayal begins, and we reach the Last Supper, when Jesus shares a final meal with His apostles. After that, the story gets heavy as Jesus prays in the Garden of Gethsemane, is arrested, and His friends struggle to be brave.

Then comes Good Friday: Jesus is brought before leaders, mocked, hurt, and made to carry the cross. The episode tells the truth about His suffering without getting graphic, and it keeps bringing it back to love: Jesus chose this for us.

Finally, we land where the Church always wants us to land: Easter. Saturday is quiet and sad, but Sunday changes everything. Jesus rises. Death loses. And that’s why Holy Week matters.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is Holy Week for kids?

Holy Week is the week when we remember what happened to Jesus right before Easter. It includes Palm Sunday, the Last Supper, Jesus’s death on the cross, and His Resurrection. It’s the most important week of the year because it shows how much Jesus loves us.

What happens during Holy Week in order?

Holy Week starts with Palm Sunday, when Jesus enters Jerusalem. Then we remember the Last Supper, Jesus praying in the Garden, His arrest, and Good Friday when He dies on the cross. After Holy Saturday, Easter Sunday celebrates that Jesus rose from the dead.

Why is Holy Week important for kids?

Holy Week helps kids understand that Jesus isn’t just a “nice story”. He chose love in real life, even when it was hard. It teaches courage, forgiveness, and hope. And it shows that God can bring new life even after the saddest moments.

What is Palm Sunday, and why do we get palms?

Palm Sunday remembers the day people welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem and waved palm branches while shouting “Hosanna.” At Mass, we hold palms to remember that moment and to start Holy Week together as a Church family.

How do you explain Good Friday to a child?

You can say: “Good Friday is the day Jesus died on the cross because He loves us.” Keep it simple, let kids ask questions, and remind them it’s not the end of the story. The sadness of Good Friday leads to the joy of Easter.

If your kids asked a big faith question this week, you’re not alone. Subscribe so you’ve always got a short, safe, Catholic video ready for car rides, bedtime, or Sunday prep.

Teaching Love on Valentine’s Day: Catholic Valentines for Kids

In this Juice Box Valentine special, families will learn easy ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day with kids, through thoughtful words, simple crafts, and choosing love in real-life moments.

Catholic Valentine’s for Kids (Meaning + Easy Ways to Celebrate)

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be just about candy and cards.

For Catholic families, it’s a simple, meaningful chance to teach kids what love really is: not just something we feel, but something we choose.

Valentine’s Day is named after St. Valentine, a real saint who believed love was worth living , and even suffering for, because love comes from God. That’s why Catholics don’t just say “I love you” on Valentine’s Day. We do love.

This episode of Juice Box helps kids understand that kind of love in ways they can actually practice with crafts, stories, prayer, and a whole lot of joy.

Key Takeaways

  • Valentine’s Day is named after St. Valentine, a real saint who chose love even when it was difficult.
  • Love is something we do, not just something we say
  • Kids can practice love in small, everyday ways, not just on Valentine’s Day.
  • Prayer is like writing a Valentine to God sharing what’s on your heart.
  • The Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary show us what real love looks like: patient, merciful, and self-giving.

Episode Summary

This Valentine’s Day special starts with a moment kids instantly understand: Giving a gift made with love.

A simple LEGO bouquet opens the door to a bigger truth love isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being thoughtful.

From there, kids jump into a hands-on craft: a Valentine’s card that begins like a paper snowflake and opens into a heart. As they cut, fold, and decorate, they’re invited to think about who they want to love: a parent, a friend, or even God himself.

That leads to a beautiful connection: prayer is like writing a Valentine to God. It’s how we tell Him what’s on our hearts.

Next, kids hear the story of St. Valentine, who secretly helped couples get married because he believed God’s plan for love mattered more than fear or comfort. Through LEGO builds and storytelling, kids learn that love means choosing what’s right even when it’s hard.

The episode then explores what love really looks like, using St. Paul’s words: Love is patient. Love is kind. Love doesn’t keep score. In other words, love looks like Jesus.

Finally, the celebration continues with heart-shaped cookies and a powerful reflection on two very important hearts in our faith: the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. These hearts remind kids that love is merciful, faithful, and always given away.

The message lands simply and beautifully: Every time we love, God has already shown us how.

[00:00:03 --> 00:00:08] I did, do you like them?
[00:00:08 --> 00:00:10] They're Lego.
[00:00:10 --> 00:00:11] I made them Lego because I see you don't water your plants.
[00:00:11 --> 00:00:17] That is painfully true, but very thoughtful.
[00:00:17 --> 00:00:19] You are welcome, friend.
[00:00:19 --> 00:00:20] Well friends, Happy Valentine's Day. I'm so excited that you're here. Today, we are celebrating love. Valentine's Day is named after a real life saint, Saint Valentine. Saint Valentine believed in choosing love, even when it was really hard because love comes from God. God is love. That's why on St. Valentine's Day, we do more than just say, I love you.
[00:00:20 --> 00:00:22] I love you.
[00:00:22 --> 00:02:51] We do things, we give each other gifts. We make each other cards, and we share what's on our hearts. So let's start off this beautiful holiday of love by making our own Valentine's Day card. Do you wanna help me? So this one starts off like a paper snowflake, but it ends up like a heart. Use whatever colors you want. I have purple and red, and then you wanna cut out a second heart that's a little bit smaller than that one. So you're gonna fold your paper again. And you're gonna take your heart, fold it back in half like it was. Fold it up once like this. Turn it over, take this edge and fold it up like this. And just like a snowflake, no two hearts are the same. Oh, that's beautiful. Okay, now we are going to glue or tape this smaller heart onto your bigger heart. I just love writing Valentine's for people. You can tell somebody you love them any day of the year, but there is something about Valentine's Day that just makes it a little bit more special. Okay, now that we have your beautiful heart snowflake taped to the outside, you can write a message on the inside. You can write it to somebody in your family. You could write it to a friend, or you can write one to God. There you go.
[00:02:53 --> 00:02:57] Where does one mail a Valentine's Day card to God? What's the address?
[00:02:57 --> 00:03:13] You know what, praying is kind of like writing a Valentine's to God. You're telling him what's on your heart. This reminds me of a great Juice Box episode that's all about love and what it means and where it comes from, and it even has the story of St. Valentine, there's even some really cute Lego builds. Let's go ahead and watch it.
[00:03:13 --> 00:03:35] Hi friends, today at Juice Box, we're talking all about love and we're building some really cute Valentine's Day Legos. God gave us many gifts, but love is the greatest gift of all. Let's get building and I'll tell you more about God's love for us.
[00:03:37 --> 00:03:38] Juice Box.
[00:03:41 --> 00:03:44] Did you know St. Valentine is the patron saint of marriage and also beekeepers? That's why I'm building this really cute little bee. You probably know Valentine's Day as a holiday where we give each other candy or flowers, but the day is also about a famous saint. Saint Valentine lived a really long time ago, and he would secretly help men and women get married, even though the Emperor, Claudius II, said it was illegal. The emperor thought that if young boys got married and had families, they would not want to go off to war. This made things really tricky for people trying to follow God. First, they knew that God wanted them to worship him, not the false gods of the emperor. Second, they knew that God wanted them to get married and to start families. St. Valentine had the special job of being God's helper. The emperor was very angry with St. Valentine. He even put him in jail. But St. Valentine knew that he was doing the right thing for God. One of Jesus's disciples, apostle Paul, also thought love was God's greatest gift. Without love, every other gift that God gives us is meaningless. Love lets you use other gifts. So what is love? Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous of what other people have. It does not brag or act proud. Love is not mean or selfish or quick to anger. Love doesn't keep a list of all the wrong or bad things other people have done. Love does not find happiness in evil things, but finds happiness in truth and goodness. Love is selfless and is supposed to be given to others. These descriptions of love describe Jesus. That means that Jesus is love. And because we want to be like Jesus, we should love like Jesus. What are some of the ways that we could love like Jesus loves? How do we know that God loves us? Well, God created the whole world and all people, not because he needs to, but because he loves the world and all people. He wants us to share this world with him and see how much he loves us. God also showed us how much he loves us by becoming a human, Jesus Christ. Jesus then died for us on the cross so that we can get to the greatest place ever, heaven. God does all of this 'cause he loves us. While it's really fun celebrating St. Valentine's with friends and chocolates, try to remember that this day of love is about giving out our love like St. Valentine did and how God does every day. Love is not as nice if you keep it all to yourself. Let's say a prayer for love. In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, oh God, I love you more than anything else. I want to love my friends and family with all the love that I have. Just like you give us all the love that you have. Help me to be patient and kind and selfless, just like love is, amen.
[00:03:44 --> 00:03:46] I love that one, love is something we choose, not just something we feel. And every time we love, we get a little glimpse of God because God is love. Isn't that incredible? Okay, next up, cookies. Because every good Valentine's Day needs something sweet and I just love cookies. These are heart shaped, come look.
[00:03:46 --> 00:03:49] I brought the sprinkles.
[00:03:54 --> 00:03:56] As we decorate, these hearts make me think about something special. In our faith, we talk a lot about hearts. It's not just what we feel. It's at the center of who we are. And that brings us to two very important hearts. We have another video that'll help explain what those hearts are. It's a craft all about Jesus and Mary and what it means to love with mercy. It's incredible. Let's go watch it while I finish up these cookies.
[00:03:56 --> 00:03:59] Happy St. Valentine's Day, Juice Boxers. Love comes in all kinds of forms besides just for sweethearts. You can show love to your parents, siblings, friends, or anyone you care about. The greatest love of all is the love Jesus Christ has for us. Today, we get to celebrate that love we feel for the people in our lives. And what better way to celebrate than to give others a Valentine? Today I'll show you how to make Valentine's in the shapes of the most merciful hearts. The merciful heart of Jesus and Mary.
[00:03:59 --> 00:04:02] Juice Box.
[00:04:03 --> 00:04:06] The merciful hearts became really important, a long time ago, during the Middle Ages. St. Margaret Mary had lots of visions about these hearts and how much Jesus and Mary Love us. She shared all her stories so that everyone could learn about God's love and mercy. The most famous of the hearts is a sacred heart of Jesus. It's a symbol of Jesus's amazing love and mercy for all of us. Mercy means that even when we mess up, Jesus forgives us and still loves us so much. The sacred heart of Jesus is shown with flames coming from it to show how his love burns for us. It also has thorns around it. Can you guess what that reminds us of? That's right, the crown of thorns that Jesus wore when he died for us, the thorns remind us of the pain he went through to take away our sins. This sacred heart reminds us of the never ending mercy and love Jesus has for us. Think about how much you love your mom and dad, it's a lot. That's how much Jesus loves you, even more. Next is the immaculate heart of Mary. This heart shows how much Mary loves Jesus and how much she loves all of us too. Mary's immaculate heart is also on fire with love. It's also depicted with roses or other flowers wrapped around it, representing the beauty God brings to our world. There's a sword piercing through the heart. That's because when she saw Jesus being tortured and hit and spit on and crucified, it felt like a sword going right into her heart, ow. So when we see Mary's heart, we think about how much she loves her family and how even though things can be hard sometimes, God's love will find a way to bring beauty and love to us. Those hearts look great. Wow, your Valentines are looking beautiful. Let's add some fun treats inside, maybe some chocolates or candy. And don't forget a sweet note. Who are you giving your Valentine to? I'm sure they'll love it. The most merciful hearts of Jesus and Mary help us to understand just how much God loves us and they inspire us to love and care for others just like they did.
[00:04:06 --> 00:04:09] Those are some really unique Valentines. I like the little candies that you could put inside and it really makes you think about the heart of Mary and Jesus, and a heart full of mercy. Those are some pretty perfect Valentines. So maybe today you could give somebody a Valentine. It could be something that you made, it can be a kind word. It can even be a special prayer for that person. However you celebrate, remember this, every time you love, God has already shown up. Thanks for being a part of this Valentine's Day Party with us. I had so much fun.
[00:04:09 --> 00:04:13] If you wanna keep celebrating with Juice Box, don't forget to subscribe.
[00:04:13 --> 00:04:16] And remember, friends, you are deeply loved.
[00:04:16 --> 00:04:20] Happy Valentine's Day, friends, bye.
[00:04:25 --> 00:04:27] Juice Box.

Pentecost Birthday Party

Pentecost is the celebration of the Holy Spirit descending upon the apostles and Mary. It was a new beginning for the Church, which is why we call it the Church’s birthday.

This week, we threw a birthday bash to celebrate Pentecost, the anniversary of the founding of the Church, and the moment Jesus’ followers received the beautiful gifts of the Holy Spirit. Grab your party hats, and let’s have some fun celebrating the Church’s birthday while learning all about these gifts and Pentecost.

There are many great things about Thanksgiving – turkey and pumpkin pie, football, family, and the start of the holiday season. But Thanksgiving is much more than food and fun, especially regarding our catholic faith. Let’s make this cool flower centerpiece for our Juice Box Thanksgiving table, and I’ll tell you why Thanksgiving is so special.

Spring LEGO Builds

Today, we can feel spring in the air!

It’s a special season when flowers pop up from the ground, animals come out of their winter hiding, and we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus during Easter. Spring is all about newness, about new life starting, just like when Jesus made everything new with his death and resurrection.

In this video, we have many fun Lego sets to build that can help us welcome spring and remind us of the special type of spring that Jesus gives us. Let’s learn how springtime is like Jesus while having some fun building Lego sets!

We hope you will partner with us on this unique project to create something the Catholic Church desperately needs. Please help us build a firm foundation of kids interested in connecting with their faith and wanting to grow in holiness through this content. Very few high-quality multimedia resources are available to Catholic parents to help their children begin to understand and become enthusiastic about their faith. We intend to fill that gap and are currently working on raising money for this kids’ show. We need and will very much appreciate your help!

Three Wise Men Crafts

The Three Wise Men, also known as the Three Kings, traveled far from the East following a star to come and visit the new King, Jesus, after he was born. The Epiphany or the Three Kings Day should remind us how special Jesus is and that we should look for Him just like the Three Wise Men did. So today, we’ll be making a fun craft and learning more about the Three Wise Men, and here’s what we’re going to need:

  • 3 Toilet Paper Rolls
  • 3 Colors of Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • The Gifts (Decorations)
  • Cotton Balls
  • Yellow or Gold Paper
  • Marker
  • Googly Eyes
  • Glue

Christmas Tree Nature Craft

Having a Christmas Tree is a great way to remind us of Jesus. Just like evergreen branches that stay green even in winter, and all the other trees have lost their leaves, Jesus loves us all the time, all year long. And as a part of the Christmas festivities, we usually decorate a Christmas tree. In this video, we’re going to make our very own Christmas tree, and here’s what we’re going to need:

  • A Piece of Cardboard
  • Marker (for drawing)
  • Rubber Bands
  • Scissors
  • Some Evergreen Pieces
  • Decoration of your Choice

Watch the video and follow along as Dilly crafts her Christmas tree. A special thanks to Little Pine Learners for inspiring this craft. You can visit them at https://littlepinelearners.com/
