In this Juice Box episode, kids hear the story of Ruth and Naomi in a warm, kid-friendly way and learn how love, loyalty, hard work, and trust in God can lead to a beautiful new beginning. A gentle Bible story for kids about Ruth, Naomi, faithfulness, and how God can bring hope after sadness, even when the next chapter feels uncertain.

Ruth for Kids: What Her Bible Story Teaches

Ruth for kids is the story of a faithful woman from the Bible who stays with her mother-in-law Naomi after their family goes through deep sadness and loss. Instead of walking away, Ruth chooses love and says yes to a new life with Naomi.

Ruth and Naomi travel to Bethlehem, where Ruth works hard to help provide for them. She goes to the fields to glean grain, doing steady, responsible work while caring for Naomi.

There, Ruth meets Boaz, a kind man who notices her goodness and helps protect her. Through him, God’s care becomes visible in their lives.

The story of Ruth for kids shows how God quietly cares for people through faithful choices, kind helpers, and hopeful new beginnings. Ruth’s life becomes part of a much bigger story in God’s providential plan.

For kids, Ruth’s story teaches that love stays, faith keeps going, and God can bring hope after sadness, even when we don’t know what happens next.

Episode Summary

This episode tells the Bible story of Ruth for kids through a gentle bedtime-style Bible story called The Girl Who Lived Happily Ever After. Ruth’s story begins with sadness: she has lost her husband, and Naomi has lost so much too. But Ruth makes a brave and loving choice, she stays with Naomi instead of leaving her alone.

Together, Ruth and Naomi go to Bethlehem and begin a new chapter. It’s not fancy. It’s not easy. Ruth works hard in the fields, gleaning grain so they can keep going. Her faithfulness shows kids that love often looks like small, steady choices.

While Ruth is working, she meets Boaz, a kind man who treats her with care and respect. Boaz notices Ruth’s goodness, her loyalty to Naomi, and her willingness to work hard. Through him, Ruth and Naomi begin to see that God has not forgotten them. God works in the middle of everyday life, filled with faith and love.

By the end, Ruth’s story becomes a beautiful reminder that God can bring hope after sadness. It’s not magic. It’s not instant. But God is near, God provides, and God can turn a hard chapter into a new beginning filled with love.

[00:00:06 --> 00:00:09] Let's build our Lego love birds while we discover
[00:00:09 --> 00:00:13] how God cared for Ruth through every twist and turn.
[00:00:13 --> 00:00:15] Let's see if we can finish our birds
[00:00:15 --> 00:00:17] before the story is over.
[00:00:17 --> 00:00:18] Juice Box.
[00:00:22 --> 00:00:23] Once upon a time,
[00:00:23 --> 00:00:25] there was a girl named Ruth.
[00:00:25 --> 00:00:29] She lived in a place called Moab.
[00:00:29 --> 00:00:32] Ruth often dreamed of the day when she would meet the man
[00:00:32 --> 00:00:34] who would become her husband.
[00:00:34 --> 00:00:36] She wanted very much to get married,
[00:00:36 --> 00:00:38] and to have a family of her own.
[00:00:38 --> 00:00:40] When Ruth was a child,
[00:00:40 --> 00:00:42] it felt like it would be a very long time
[00:00:42 --> 00:00:44] before she could get married.
[00:00:44 --> 00:00:46] But time passed,
[00:00:46 --> 00:00:49] and finally Ruth was old enough to find a husband.
[00:00:49 --> 00:00:53] She didn't know where, or when, she would meet her husband,
[00:00:53 --> 00:00:55] but she often wondered what he would be like.
[00:00:57 --> 00:01:00] One day, Ruth traveled to her town's market
[00:01:00 --> 00:01:03] to buy bread for her family to eat.
[00:01:03 --> 00:01:05] While she was at the market looking at
[00:01:05 --> 00:01:08] all of the delicious loaves of bread,
[00:01:08 --> 00:01:10] she saw a man looking to buy bread as well.
[00:01:11 --> 00:01:14] Ruth thought the man was very handsome,
[00:01:14 --> 00:01:16] and wanted to talk to him.
[00:01:16 --> 00:01:19] So Ruth asked the man, "What's your name?"
[00:01:20 --> 00:01:22] The man said his name was Kilion.
[00:01:24 --> 00:01:27] Ruth asked, "What kind of bread are you going to buy?"
[00:01:28 --> 00:01:31] Kilion said, "Whatever they can give me.
[00:01:31 --> 00:01:34] My family and I just moved to Moab
[00:01:34 --> 00:01:36] from a place called Bethlehem.
[00:01:36 --> 00:01:40] The town had a very bad famine and there was no food at all.
[00:01:40 --> 00:01:42] So we came here."
[00:01:43 --> 00:01:47] Ruth felt very badly that Kilion's town had run out of food.
[00:01:47 --> 00:01:51] She offered to have him and his family over for dinner,
[00:01:51 --> 00:01:53] so they could have a proper meal.
[00:01:54 --> 00:01:56] Kilion was very thankful.
[00:01:56 --> 00:01:58] Ruth asked how many children he had.
[00:01:59 --> 00:02:00] Kilion replied,
[00:02:00 --> 00:02:03] "I don't have any children. I'm not married."
[00:02:05 --> 00:02:08] Ruth was very glad to hear that he was not married,
[00:02:08 --> 00:02:12] and said, "But you said you moved here with your family."
[00:02:13 --> 00:02:14] Kilion said,
[00:02:14 --> 00:02:18] "Oh, yes. I moved here with my mother and father."
[00:02:19 --> 00:02:21] He seemed very sad when he said this,
[00:02:21 --> 00:02:24] and Ruth asked him what was wrong.
[00:02:24 --> 00:02:25] Kilion said,
[00:02:25 --> 00:02:30] "Shortly after we arrived in Moab, my father died."
[00:02:30 --> 00:02:32] Ruth was very sad when she heard this,
[00:02:32 --> 00:02:34] and wanted to help Kilion feel better.
[00:02:35 --> 00:02:38] That night, Kilion came to dinner at Ruth's house
[00:02:38 --> 00:02:40] with his mother, Naomi.
[00:02:41 --> 00:02:44] Naomi was very sad about her husband's death.
[00:02:44 --> 00:02:49] So Ruth was very kind to Naomi and gave her lots of comfort.
[00:02:49 --> 00:02:51] Naomi was fond of Ruth,
[00:02:51 --> 00:02:54] and Ruth felt comfortable with Kilion's family.
[00:02:54 --> 00:02:56] Ruth and Kilion knew that night
[00:02:56 --> 00:02:59] that they would be good friends.
[00:02:59 --> 00:03:01] They became such good friends, in fact,
[00:03:01 --> 00:03:05] that they eventually fell in love, and got married.
[00:03:05 --> 00:03:08] Ruth's dream had finally come true.
[00:03:08 --> 00:03:11] Ruth though that she and Kilion would be together
[00:03:11 --> 00:03:13] for the rest of their lives.
[00:03:14 --> 00:03:18] But shortly after they got married, Kilion died.
[00:03:18 --> 00:03:21] Ruth was shocked and sad.
[00:03:21 --> 00:03:23] She felt like she was all alone,
[00:03:23 --> 00:03:26] and didn't know what she would do.
[00:03:26 --> 00:03:29] Naomi was also very sad.
[00:03:29 --> 00:03:32] Now that her husband and her son had died,
[00:03:32 --> 00:03:35] she decided to move back to their previous hometown
[00:03:35 --> 00:03:37] of Bethlehem.
[00:03:37 --> 00:03:39] She had heard that the famine had ended,
[00:03:39 --> 00:03:40] and now there was food to eat.
[00:03:41 --> 00:03:45] Ruth decided to move to Bethlehem with Naomi.
[00:03:45 --> 00:03:47] She did not want to be alone.
[00:03:47 --> 00:03:49] And Naomi was her only family now.
[00:03:50 --> 00:03:54] When Naomi found out that Ruth wanted to move with her,
[00:03:54 --> 00:03:58] she said, "Ruth, you know that I love you,
[00:03:58 --> 00:04:01] but you are still young and deserve to be happy.
[00:04:01 --> 00:04:03] You ought to stay here.
[00:04:03 --> 00:04:07] Someday when you're not so sad, you can find a husband,
[00:04:07 --> 00:04:09] and have a family of your own."
[00:04:09 --> 00:04:14] But Ruth said, "Naomi, please do not tell me to stay behind.
[00:04:14 --> 00:04:19] I want to be with you. Wherever you go, I will go.
[00:04:19 --> 00:04:22] Wherever you stay, I will stay."
[00:04:22 --> 00:04:25] Naomi knew that Ruth had a good heart,
[00:04:25 --> 00:04:29] and that she truly wanted to move to Bethlehem with her.
[00:04:29 --> 00:04:31] So Naomi did not challenge Ruth again.
[00:04:33 --> 00:04:38] So Ruth and Naomi made the long journey back to Bethlehem.
[00:04:38 --> 00:04:40] It was a lot of walking,
[00:04:40 --> 00:04:43] but they kept each other company along the way.
[00:04:43 --> 00:04:46] They told stories about their husbands.
[00:04:46 --> 00:04:49] Naomi even told Ruth stories about Kilion
[00:04:49 --> 00:04:51] when he was just a little boy.
[00:04:51 --> 00:04:55] And Ruth laughed so hard that her sides hurt.
[00:04:55 --> 00:05:00] It was the first time she had truly laughed in a long time.
[00:05:01 --> 00:05:03] Finally, they arrived in Bethlehem,
[00:05:03 --> 00:05:05] and Naomi's friends and relatives
[00:05:05 --> 00:05:08] were very happy to see her.
[00:05:08 --> 00:05:11] While Naomi was glad to see everyone,
[00:05:11 --> 00:05:13] she still felt sad inside,
[00:05:13 --> 00:05:18] and told them that both her husband and Kilion had died.
[00:05:18 --> 00:05:22] Naomi's friends and relatives were shocked to hear this.
[00:05:22 --> 00:05:26] They made sure to take good care of Naomi and Ruth.
[00:05:27 --> 00:05:30] Ruth was happy to be with Naomi,
[00:05:30 --> 00:05:33] but she felt very lonely and troubled.
[00:05:33 --> 00:05:36] She was in a new and strange place
[00:05:36 --> 00:05:38] with people she didn't know.
[00:05:38 --> 00:05:41] And she wondered how she would fit in with these new people.
[00:05:42 --> 00:05:45] Besides, she did not have a job.
[00:05:45 --> 00:05:49] And she and Naomi were very hungry from their long journey.
[00:05:49 --> 00:05:53] Ruth knew that they needed to have a way to eat.
[00:05:53 --> 00:05:55] They didn't have money to buy food.
[00:05:55 --> 00:05:59] But Bethlehem was having a great barley harvest.
[00:05:59 --> 00:06:01] And barley was good for making bread.
[00:06:02 --> 00:06:05] There were many local farmers in the area
[00:06:05 --> 00:06:09] who would send harvesters out very early in the morning
[00:06:09 --> 00:06:12] to retrieve food from the crops.
[00:06:12 --> 00:06:15] Ruth found out that the farmers would let people come
[00:06:15 --> 00:06:17] and take home what was left over
[00:06:17 --> 00:06:18] after the harvesters had finished.
[00:06:20 --> 00:06:24] So the next day, Ruth left first thing in the morning,
[00:06:24 --> 00:06:27] and found the first barley field she could.
[00:06:28 --> 00:06:31] As soon as the harvesters finished, she went onto the field,
[00:06:31 --> 00:06:35] and began to take barley so her and Naomi could make bread.
[00:06:36 --> 00:06:40] Ruth worked very hard all morning collecting barley.
[00:06:40 --> 00:06:44] In the afternoon, the owner of the field came along.
[00:06:44 --> 00:06:45] His name was Bo.
[00:06:46 --> 00:06:50] He noticed Ruth, and asked one of the harvesters,
[00:06:50 --> 00:06:54] "Who is the woman collecting barley from my field?"
[00:06:54 --> 00:06:56] The harvester said, "That's Ruth."
[00:06:56 --> 00:07:00] She just moved here from Moab with Naomi.
[00:07:00 --> 00:07:02] She asked if she could take the leftover barley,
[00:07:02 --> 00:07:05] and she hasn't stopped working since this morning.
[00:07:07 --> 00:07:08] Bo had heard about Ruth,
[00:07:08 --> 00:07:11] and he knew that she had been very kind to Naomi.
[00:07:13 --> 00:07:17] Bo wanted to talk to her, so he started walking towards her.
[00:07:17 --> 00:07:21] At first, Ruth though she might be in trouble,
[00:07:21 --> 00:07:25] but Bo greeted her with a big warm smile.
[00:07:25 --> 00:07:28] He said, "You must be Ruth."
[00:07:28 --> 00:07:31] Ruth said, "Yes, I am."
[00:07:32 --> 00:07:35] Bo said, "It's good to have you here.
[00:07:35 --> 00:07:37] You're welcome to come and collect barley
[00:07:37 --> 00:07:40] from my field anytime.
[00:07:40 --> 00:07:42] You can come here as often as you'd like.
[00:07:42 --> 00:07:46] I know it's hot outside, so if you ever get thirsty,
[00:07:46 --> 00:07:48] my harvesters have water they can give to you."
[00:07:50 --> 00:07:53] Ruth though this was very kind of Bo,
[00:07:53 --> 00:07:57] and she asked Bo what she had done to earn such kindness.
[00:07:57 --> 00:07:59] Bo said, "I've heard about you,
[00:07:59 --> 00:08:02] and how kind you have been to Naomi.
[00:08:02 --> 00:08:04] I know her very well.
[00:08:04 --> 00:08:05] You have a good heart,
[00:08:05 --> 00:08:08] and I want to make sure that you are taken care of."
[00:08:09 --> 00:08:12] Ruth was very moved by Bo's kindness
[00:08:12 --> 00:08:13] and thanked him from her heart.
[00:08:14 --> 00:08:17] Bo invited Ruth inside to have lunch.
[00:08:17 --> 00:08:21] She was very hungry, and she followed him inside,
[00:08:21 --> 00:08:24] where they had a big meal together.
[00:08:24 --> 00:08:27] After lunch, Bo walked Ruth outside,
[00:08:27 --> 00:08:28] and told the harvesters
[00:08:28 --> 00:08:32] to let Ruth take barley anytime she wanted.
[00:08:32 --> 00:08:36] He even told them to leave a little extra barley for her.
[00:08:36 --> 00:08:38] Ruth thanked Bo,
[00:08:38 --> 00:08:41] and then kept working until it was dark outside.
[00:08:41 --> 00:08:44] As she worked, she though about Bo.
[00:08:44 --> 00:08:48] She though he was very nice and she wanted to see him again.
[00:08:50 --> 00:08:54] That night, Ruth took the barley back to Naomi.
[00:08:54 --> 00:08:57] She was amazed at how much she had collected.
[00:08:57 --> 00:09:01] Naomi asked, "Where did you get all of this?"
[00:09:01 --> 00:09:04] Ruth told Naomi that she had been working in the field
[00:09:04 --> 00:09:06] of a man named Bo.
[00:09:06 --> 00:09:10] And Naomi interrupted her and said, "I know Bo."
[00:09:10 --> 00:09:11] Ruth said,
[00:09:11 --> 00:09:16] "He was very kind to me. I really enjoyed meeting him."
[00:09:16 --> 00:09:20] Naomi said to Ruth, "Bo is a very good man.
[00:09:20 --> 00:09:23] You know, he would make a good husband.
[00:09:23 --> 00:09:25] Kilion would want you to be happy,
[00:09:25 --> 00:09:28] and he would be very happy to know that you're with Bo."
[00:09:29 --> 00:09:31] Ruth blushed.
[00:09:31 --> 00:09:33] "At the very least," said Naomi,
[00:09:33 --> 00:09:36] "You should go back to his field for more barley.
[00:09:36 --> 00:09:38] He is being very generous."
[00:09:39 --> 00:09:43] So Ruth went back to Bo's barley field every day,
[00:09:43 --> 00:09:46] and every day, she would take the leftover barley
[00:09:46 --> 00:09:47] after the harvesters were done.
[00:09:48 --> 00:09:52] Ruth and Bo started spending a lot of time together,
[00:09:52 --> 00:09:54] and she thought Bo was the kindest,
[00:09:54 --> 00:09:56] nicest man she had ever met.
[00:09:57 --> 00:10:00] Ruth and Bo became very close,
[00:10:00 --> 00:10:04] and Ruth wondered if maybe Bo would be her husband someday.
[00:10:04 --> 00:10:06] She liked the thought of it.
[00:10:07 --> 00:10:09] After the harvest season had ended,
[00:10:09 --> 00:10:12] and all the barley was gone,
[00:10:12 --> 00:10:15] Ruth told Naomi that she wanted to marry Bo.
[00:10:15 --> 00:10:17] Naomi was very happy
[00:10:17 --> 00:10:20] that Ruth had found somebody she wanted to be with.
[00:10:20 --> 00:10:22] Naomi said,
[00:10:22 --> 00:10:26] "I'll bet Bo is still working in the field tonight.
[00:10:26 --> 00:10:30] Put on your best dress and go tell him that you love him."
[00:10:31 --> 00:10:34] So Ruth put on her prettiest dress
[00:10:34 --> 00:10:37] and left for Bo's field as the sun was setting.
[00:10:39 --> 00:10:42] When she arrived at the field, it was very dark,
[00:10:42 --> 00:10:45] and Bo was resting on a pile of barley.
[00:10:46 --> 00:10:49] As she walked up, Bo couldn't see who was coming.
[00:10:49 --> 00:10:52] And he said, "Who is that?"
[00:10:52 --> 00:10:55] "It's me, Ruth," said Ruth.
[00:10:56 --> 00:10:59] Bo was very happy to see Ruth.
[00:10:59 --> 00:11:03] Almost as happy as she was to see him.
[00:11:03 --> 00:11:06] "You look very beautiful," said Bo.
[00:11:06 --> 00:11:10] Ruth thanked Bo and told him how much she loved him.
[00:11:10 --> 00:11:12] Bo was so happy.
[00:11:12 --> 00:11:15] He told Ruth that he cared very much for her,
[00:11:15 --> 00:11:17] and wanted to marry her.
[00:11:17 --> 00:11:22] But there was a law that said when a woman's husband dies,
[00:11:22 --> 00:11:25] she should marry the closest living relative of her husband.
[00:11:26 --> 00:11:30] Bo told Ruth that Kilion had a cousin named Justin,
[00:11:30 --> 00:11:33] and they had to get his permission for Bo to marry Ruth.
[00:11:34 --> 00:11:39] Ruth was very sad when she heard this, but Bo said,
[00:11:39 --> 00:11:41] "Tomorrow, I will talk to Justin.
[00:11:41 --> 00:11:43] And if he does not give us permission,
[00:11:43 --> 00:11:45] then we cannot get married.
[00:11:45 --> 00:11:48] But if he does, I will marry you right away."
[00:11:50 --> 00:11:54] Ruth went home to Naomi. She felt very nervous.
[00:11:54 --> 00:11:57] She did not know what Justin would say,
[00:11:57 --> 00:11:58] and if she would get to marry Bo.
[00:12:00 --> 00:12:03] Ruth told Naomi everything that had happened.
[00:12:03 --> 00:12:08] "Do not worry, Ruth," said Naomi. "Bo will talk to Justin.
[00:12:08 --> 00:12:11] If God wants you to be together, you will be."
[00:12:13 --> 00:12:14] Ruth went to bed that night,
[00:12:14 --> 00:12:18] knowing that tomorrow would determine her future.
[00:12:18 --> 00:12:20] She was very anxious,
[00:12:20 --> 00:12:22] and she prayed that God would take care of it.
[00:12:23 --> 00:12:28] The next day, Bo met with Justin and said,
[00:12:28 --> 00:12:32] "I know the law says that you should marry Ruth.
[00:12:32 --> 00:12:34] But I love her very much,
[00:12:34 --> 00:12:37] and I promise to take good care of her.
[00:12:37 --> 00:12:40] Would you grant me your permission to marry her?"
[00:12:41 --> 00:12:46] Justin thought long and hard. Bo was afraid.
[00:12:46 --> 00:12:48] Justin had the power to determine
[00:12:48 --> 00:12:51] whether or not he and Ruth could get married.
[00:12:52 --> 00:12:56] Justin thought and thought for a long time.
[00:12:56 --> 00:12:58] Bo did not know what he would say.
[00:13:00 --> 00:13:04] Finally, after a long time of thinking, Justin said,
[00:13:04 --> 00:13:08] "Yes. You have my permission to marry Ruth.
[00:13:08 --> 00:13:11] And I hope you are very happy together."
[00:13:12 --> 00:13:15] Bo was filled with joy.
[00:13:15 --> 00:13:19] He shook Justin's hand and ran to see Ruth.
[00:13:19 --> 00:13:21] As Bo approached the house
[00:13:21 --> 00:13:23] where Ruth and Naomi were staying,
[00:13:23 --> 00:13:26] he ran as fast as he could,
[00:13:26 --> 00:13:29] and began to scream Ruth's name.
[00:13:29 --> 00:13:33] "Ruth! Ruth!" he yelled.
[00:13:33 --> 00:13:37] When Ruth heard her name, she stepped outside
[00:13:37 --> 00:13:40] to see Bo running so fast he was out breath.
[00:13:41 --> 00:13:44] "Bo," she said. "What's wrong?"
[00:13:45 --> 00:13:50] "Nothing is wrong, my dear," said Bo. "Nothing at all."
[00:13:51 --> 00:13:54] Bo then got down on one knee and said,
[00:13:54 --> 00:13:59] "Ruth, I am in love with you. Will you marry me?"
[00:14:00 --> 00:14:04] Ruth was so happy that she screamed.
[00:14:04 --> 00:14:07] "Yes! I will marry you."
[00:14:09 --> 00:14:14] Bo hugged Ruth very tight. Bo and Ruth did get married.
[00:14:15 --> 00:14:18] And they had a baby boy named Obi.
[00:14:19 --> 00:14:21] Ruth's heart was very full.
[00:14:22 --> 00:14:25] Bo had made Ruth's family whole again.
[00:14:25 --> 00:14:28] And her dream of marrying a man she loved,
[00:14:28 --> 00:14:31] and having children finally came true.
[00:14:32 --> 00:14:34] God saw what Ruth needed,
[00:14:34 --> 00:14:37] and He gave her the desires of her heart.
[00:14:37 --> 00:14:40] Ruth loved her family very much,
[00:14:40 --> 00:14:44] and they all lived happily ever after.
